July is named for Julius Caesar. Originally, the Roman Month was called Quintilis<\/a>, as it was the fifth month of the Roman calendar, which originally started in March. Caesar reformed the calendar in 44BC and the Senate renamed the month after him. For more on Roman Months, see my post here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 7th month is called L\u00fail in Irish and Gorffennaf in Welsh. In Anglo Saxon it was \u00c6fterali\u00f0a<\/em>, or \u201cafter-mild;\u201d, Li\u00f0a<\/em>, means \u201cmild\u201d or \u201cgentle,\u201d or the period of warm weather around Midsummer. June is Arrali\u00f0a<\/em>, or \u201cbefore-mild”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is on average the warmest month in most of the Northern Hemisphere<\/a>, where it is the second month of summer. The star signs are: Cancer<\/a> (until July 22) and Leo<\/a> (July 23 onwards),<\/p>\n\n\n\n
