Ipswich Museum - recreated their Victorian Galleries

Ipswich Museum recently reconstructed its original Victorian look.

At the same time the great regional centres acquired collections from private individuals and set up Museums for their Civic Pride.

The display aesthetic was similar to the National Museums. 1845 the government passed a Museum Act encouraging foundation of museums.

Museums took on a wider educational role, seeking a wider public. Displays were still traditional, top down, with text written by the Curator using the Curatorial voice, but increasingly designed for a less learned public.
